No one can deny the classic appeal of Creole cuisine – a deliciously spicy combination of regionally-sourced ingredients that hearken to Louisiana’s rich cultural and historical roots. However, what most people don’t know is how easy it is to whip up an amazing Creole-inspired dish without spending hours in the kitchen! This unique shrimp and sausage creole recipe combines traditional Cajun flavors with bright peppers, tomatoes, and herbs for a robust flavor that will instantly transport you straight to New Orleans. Whether you’re looking for a twist on your weekly meal prep or want to impress your friends at your next gathering, this simple yet flavorful dish lets you do just that. Let me show you how quick and delicious cooking this simplified Shrimp and Sausage Creole can be!

I started making this dish when I was a young hip bachelorette with little to no time to cook a 3 hour meal. I would prepare a large batch and freeze it for a simple go-to for lunch or dinner throughout the week. What ingredients do I need to make Shrimp and Sausage Creole?

  • Andouille or Smoked Sausage of choice
  • Shrimp, get one pound of your favorite size
  • Green Peppers
  • Onions
  • Celery
  • Cooking Oil
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Crushed Tomatoes
  • Minced Garlic
  • Pepper
  • Sugar
  • Fresh Parsley

How to make Shrimp and Sausage Creole?

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add cooking oil to the skillet.
  • Add sausage and cook until meat starts to brown.
  • Take out your sausage and place to the side.
  • To your skillet, stir in your “Holy Trinity” (Green pepper, onion, and celery).
  • Once your holy trinity starts to get tender, stir in your minced garlic and creole seasoning.
  • Add your cooked sausage back to the skillet.
  • Lower temperature to medium-low heat and stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  • Stir in salt, pepper, and sugar.
  • Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in your shrimp.
  • Stir in fresh chopped parsley.
  • Cover and let sit for 5 minutes or until shrimp are firm and have reached a pinkish orange color (This is when you will know that the shrimp are fully cooked)
  • Enjoy over rice or toast.

Shrimp & Sausage Creole

Ingredients

1/2tbs Olive Oil

14oz Smoked Sausage

1 Diced Green Pepper

1 Diced Onion

2 Diced Celery Stalk

1 Minced Garlic Clove

1tbs Creole Seasoning

28oz Crushed Tomatoes

28oz Tomato Sauce

1tsp Pepper

1/2tbs Sugar

1lb Raw Shrimp

1/2 Cup Fresh Parsley

    • Add sausage and cook until meat starts to brown.
